Strengthening Early Childhood Care Through Community Crèches

Project Overview

Through the support of the Central Social Welfare Board, PSVS managed 60 crèche centers – 40 in Korba and 20 in Bilaspur. These centers served as vital community spaces where children under six years of age received day-care, nutrition, health check-ups, and early learning opportunities.

Each crèche was staffed with dedicated workers and helpers, many of whom were trained, ensuring quality care and early education. The program directly benefited children from economically weaker households, especially those whose mothers were employed in daily-wage labor, agriculture, and informal sectors.

Impact on Communities

The initiative not only safeguarded children during working hours but also reduced malnutrition, improved hygiene practices, and created an environment where early childhood education could thrive. Mothers reported increased confidence in pursuing livelihood activities knowing their children were in safe hands. The program also created local employment opportunities for women as crèche workers and helpers, thereby fostering women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
